Kolkata, Nov 22: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sovan Chatterjee resigned from the post of Kolkata mayor on Thursday as directed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Chatterjee sent his resignation letter through a messenger to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) chairperson Mala Roy.

Roy, accepting the resignation letter, held a high-level meeting at her office Thursday.

Unemployment rate down by 40 per cent in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Nov 22: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said the rate of unemployment had come down by 40 per cent in the state, due to various developmental schemes.

Speaking in the Assembly House, Banerjee said there are 300 ITIs and polytechnics, and the state government has undertaken the ‘Utkarsh Bangla’ project, which aims to skill six lakh people every year.

Sovan Chatterjee resigns from Mamata Banerjee cabinet

Kolkata, Nov 20: West Bengal Minister for Housing and Fire Services Sovan Chatterjee resigned from the cabinet on Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said here.

Chatterjee has also been asked to quit the post of the Kolkata mayor, she said.

“He had earlier expressed his will to resign four-five times… We thought that he will realise (his mistakes). He resigned today and we have accepted it. He has also been asked to quit the post of city mayor,” Banerjee told reporters at the state secretariat.
