DARJEELING, 28th OCTOBER 2017: A section of youths today called for the the observance of ‘Bare Foot Day’ to protest the negation of Constitutional Rights in the Hills. Gathering at Chowrasta, Darjeeling, and speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ the youths appealed to the people in the region to come out barefoot in the streets to protest the violation of Constitutional Rights in the hills. They said that it is high time that the people came out in the open to protest. The youths said that beside protesting their other important objective was to educate and inform the people about their Constitutional Rights as to what they were and how they are important.
When asked as to which party or organisation they belonged they said that they were simply youths who felt strongly about what was happening around them and were not affiliated with any political party or apolitical organisation.
They said that they wanted peace in the region.
