KALIMPONG, 12 NOVEMBER 2017: Kalimpong Police has seized a number of small arms from a house at Pedong. Earlier too, Kalimpong Police has seized a sizeable amount of weapons from Sakyong village at Pedong. The Police had filed cases on former Sabhasad Dawa Lepcha and his driver Phurba Tshering Bhutia and accordingly been raiding villages and conducting investigation. Based on a tip-off during the same, the police had raided Newang Village in Pedong and seized two 9 mm pistol, one revolver, two magazines and 37 rounds of bullet from the house of one Chandra Rai.
Addressing the media, Police Superintendent Ajit Singh Yadav said that they had received information that Phurba Tshering Bhutia possessed weapons and that we walked openly carrying his weapons. He further said that today the police received information that he had hidden weapons at one Chandra Rai’s house. The police subsequently raided Rai’s house and recovered the weapons.
