JAP to again to New Delhi to raise the issue of Gorkhaland before the Budget Session

KALIMPONG, 8 JANUARY 2018: People of Darjeeling Hills are not happy and that they are living under great repression, Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri said while addressing the media after his return from New Delhi. He was briefing the media about the All India Jana Andolan Party’s campaign in New Delhi. He said that while meeting various political leaders there at the national level, the party was able to give the impression that the people of Darjeeling Hills were dishearten by the repression of the State Government. He said that the party demanded that the Central Government must speak out for the people of the Hills. He called upon other political parties to go to New Delhi and forge a united front in the demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland.
He said that he was satisfied and convinced that the party’s campaign had made a great impact in the National capital. He said that it had been the right and a necessary thing to do. He said that the party delegates were able to meet most of the leaders of the major political parties and brief them about the demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland as well as the current political situation prevalent in the Hills.
It may be noted that the party delegates had campaigned for almost a fortnight in New Delhi. The party cadres were also arrested twice during their march to the Union Parliament. The party delegates were able to submit memorandum to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh among other prominent leaders.
Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri ultimately said that more than 200 delegates from the party would go to New Delhi before the beginning of the Budget Session. He also added that a 15 member special team will also go which will meet leaders of various political parties. He said that he was convinced that during the Budget Session, the issue of Gorkhaland will definitely be raised in the Union Parliament.
