KALIMPONG 24 DECEMBER 2017: Pratap Khati, General Secretary of All India Gorkha League has strongly spoken against the validity of celebrating by organising Teesta Rangeet Tourist Fest 2017. Speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ Khati requested Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa, Chairman and Vice Chairman, Board of Administrators, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration respectively not to organise the Teesta Rangeet Tourist Fest 2017. He said, “We cannot celebrate. We cannot ask the tourist to come to Darjeeling Hills by organising a Tourism festival. How can we do that? What about the 13 martyrs who died? What about all those people who are in prison? Binay and Anit have sadly become stooges of the State Government.”
Khati went on to appeal people not to organise or participate in the Tourist festival. It may be noted that Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists (CPRM) have also come out strongly against the Teesta Rangeet Tourist Fest 2017. Party spokesman Govind Chettri had said that the tears of the Martyrs will curse upon those who organise festivals and merriment over their dead bodies.
