Three Day Folk Music festival inaugurated in Kalimpong



KALIMPONG, 5 JANUARY 2017: A three day folk musical festival (Zilla Lok Sanskriti Aoi Geet Natak Utsav) was inaugurated at Mela Ground in Kalimpong today. The festival has been organised by District Information and Cultural Department. A rally by different folk musicians, singers and artists was held before the inauguration of the festival. The rally culminated at the Mela Ground where the musicians then offered a number of musical performances.

Dr. Viswanath, Kalimpong District Magistrate said that Kalimpong was culturally very rich and that the folk music festival being organised offered a magnificent platform to the folk artists of the district to showcase their talents and rich tradition of folk music in the region.

Deepak Karkata, District Information and Cultural Officer said that it was very pleasing to see people in their ethnic costumes performing folk music.

The Folk Culture, Music and Drama and will come to an end on the 7th of January.
