KALIMPONG, 30TH MAY 2018: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and the various Developmental Boards to keep transperancy in their workings. She also said that there has to be financial credibility in the workings of both the GTA and various developmental boards since the money belongs to the people. Banerjee was speaking at a function held at Dr. Graham’s Home’s Ground. Delegates from 15 Development Boards had a united meeting with the Chief Minister.
The issue of transperancy has been prominent in the recent months as many within the boards have raised the issue of financial misdoings and corruption as well as political groupism within the development boards.
Chief Minister Banerjee once again promised the establishment of a University in the hills. Addressing the people she said that peace was the most important requirement for development. She said that she wanted to develop hills into an educational hub. She said that schools and night schools were being developed. She further said that she had accepted the desire of the people of the Hills to have a University of their own. Land for a new University had been marked at Mungpoo.
