DELHI, 12 JANUARY 2018: Bimal Gurung, the President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) who had to go underground after being implicated in the Unlaw Arms Prevention Act (UAPA) and presently in New Delhi after receiving respite from the Supreme Court has appeared before the television screen after almost seven months. In an interview to ANI, Gurung said, “Our movement for the separate state of Gorkhaland is for the identity of the Gorkha people in India. The people of Bengal are our brothers and sisters like the rest of the fellow Indians. We do not have any enmity with the people of West Bengal. However, since our culture, our language, our costumes and traditions are different we want a state of our own.”
