DARJEELING, 12 JANUARY 2018: Road Safety Week was flagged off by Darjeeling Sadar Traffic. A rally was organised in Darjeeling to mark the same. Students, volunteers and police personnel participated in the rally. Speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’, Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling, Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that the Road Safety Week started from 11th January and would continue up till 17th of January. During the entire week Darjeeling Police will organise various programmes to improve road safety awareness among the people. He said that people will be educated on how to reduce accidents and avoid them. He said that people will also be educated about the traffic laws.
Officer in Charge, Darjeeling Sadar Traffic while speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ said that from 13th January Free Eye Checkup Camp and Blood donation camp would be organised by the Darjeeling Police. Further free blood test would also be organised. Children and youths would be given a chance to direct traffic in the roads so as to garner awareness about traffic rules and regulations. He said that the main objective of the Road Safety Week was to keep the roads safe for both the drivers and the pedestrians and to reduce the incidents of accidents.
