NEW DELHI, 10th June 2017: A rally was taken out today against the issue of the imposition of Bengali as a compulsory language in the school curriculum in Darjeeling Hills. The rally was taken out by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) New Delhi branch. A memorandum was submitted to Rajiv Dutta at Bangla Bhawan in which serious concerns were expressed at the heavy handedness of the police over the GJM supporters in Darjeeling and the State Government’s reluctance in formally exempting Darjeeling Hills from the purview of the Bengali as a compulsory language through a Gazette notification.
