DARJEELING, 18 NOVEMBER 2017: North East People’s Foundation (NEP India) has sought to connect to the Hill people. Based in Bangalore, the foundation was founded on the 30th of November 2013 after the people including the Gorkhas from the North East were forced out of the South of India in 2012. Speaking to the media Ramesh Rai said that the Foundation was working as a guardian of the Gorkhas and the North Eastern people in the region (South India) and helping them in many ways at the same time keeping vigil against such evil as Human Trafficking and Child Labour. Rai said that much like other Gorkhas the Gorkhas within the NEP Foundation were also hoping that the 104 days strike and agitation led to some permanent solution in the region however, they were disappointed in the manner in which the movement died out and some leaders ended up bargaining for their own benefits. He said that the Foundation would conduct some outreach programmes in the Hills and he himself would visit Darjeeling again.
