KOLKATA, 7 DECEMBER 2017: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today at Kolkata. According to sources, Singh expressed the Union Government’s desire of first holding the GTA Elections and then holding the Tripartite Talks. However, no confirmation from either side about the same could be ascertained. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed the view that while peace had returned in the hills, the region was still very sensitive being surrounded by three international borders. She instead requested the Union Home Minister for more Central Paramilitary Forces in the Hills.

There are presently only 4 Company each comprising of 100 personnel in the Hills. The Union Government has relocated a majority of them after a Supreme Court ruling. However, the CM has now asked for personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) instead of the Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB) or the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Singh said that he would consider the Chief Minister’s request for more central forces in the Hills.
