KALIMPONG, 17TH FEBRUARY 2018: A North Bengal State Transport Corporation bus WB 73 9332 which was on its way to Kalimpong developed a technical snag after it left Siliguri at around 8.20 am and burst into fire at 6 Mile around 11 am. When the bus caught fire there were around 19 passengers in the vehicle. Everyone including the driver jumped from the bus to save themselves.

Driver Hemant Kumar Pradhan said that when he was driving the vehicle he noticed smoke rising from near the petrol tank of the bus. Soon fire erupted. He immediately pressed the brake and everybody jumped from the bus. Since there were few passengers, there was not much hassle. It could have been deadly if the bus was fully packed.

Pradhan said that the fire could have erupted due to faulty wiring. The fire brigade doused the fire later.
