Mann Ghisingh made Chairman of Hill Area Development Committee

DARJEELING, 23 NOVEMBER 2017: Maan Ghisingh, the President of Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) has been made the chairman of the newly constituted Hill Area Development Committee by the State Government. Ghisingh was handed the notification about the same during the Bipartite Meeting. The report confirmed by a national paper further states that Mahendra Chhetri, GNLF general secretary, has been made the vice-chairman while party colleague Ajoy Edwards and Shubhomoy Chatterjee of Trinamul have been made members.

The notification no. 256-HA/O/M-16/2017 originally drated on the 13th of November 2017 a, a copy of which presently in the possession of The Himalayan Beacon states, “Whereas constitution of a supplementary development body to supervise development works in the specific sectors for both the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong has been under the active consideration of the State Government. And whereas it is now considered necessary to cosntitute such a development body. Now therefore, the Governor is pleased to constitute a ‘Hill Area Development Committee’ consisting of the following persons, such Committee to function from the date of issue of this Notification until further orders. ”

Maan Ghisingh has thus been appointed Chairperson of the said body. While Mahendra Chettri, the General Secretary of the GNLF, the Vice Chairperson, Ajoy Edwards, Member and Shubhomoy Chatterjee member of the same.

The notification ultimately reads, “The committee shall work in such areas/subjects as the State Government may assign to them from time to time. The notification shall take immediate effect.”
