KOLKATA, 6 DECEMBER 2017: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed her keen desire to visit Darjeeling this month. The Chief has also expressed her happiness at having been able to restore normalcy in Darjeeling Hills after 104 days long agitation when the region was crippled and violence had flared up in many places. The Chief Minister met Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Board of Administrators of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) respectively. According to sources, the Chief Minister was keen on organising a tourism festival in Darjeeling Hills and would come to Darjeeling to inaugurate the festival at Chowrasta, on the 27th of December. She will stay in Darjeeling Hills for three days and will also attend the closing function of the festival which will be held on 29th of December at Mirik.
The three-day festival the official announcement of which has not yet been made will be held in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Mirik. The decision over the organising of the tourism festival was mostly taken during the meeting between the Chief Minister and Binay-Anit duo.
Binay-Anit duo meanwhile has expressed satisfaction in the Chief Minister’s desire to restore normalcy in the hills. Addressing the media they said that the Chief Minister had listened to their demands carefully and accepted all of them by taking them into consideration. They said that the Chief Minister’s desire to restore normalcy in the hills was welcome.
