#########

###### Darjeeling 734101

On the 9th of April 2011, the mail was returned to ‘origin’ purportedly due to ‘nonavailability of the Consignee’. This despite the fact that, I the consignee live near Pekospeed, the franchisee of Bluedart Courier in Darjeeling.

Upon inquiry at Pekospeed it was revealed that the individual who usually distributed courier had been on leave and as such another individual was assigned to distribute the mails. This individual even though the Street Name, Building Name and the Flat No. was clearly stated on the envelope did not enter the building nor made any effort to find where my flat was. The said employee even agreed before the consignee at the office of Pekospeed that he did not enter the building. He stated that he inquired about the consignee in the ‘neighbourhood’ instead of following the address specifically mentioned on the envelop of the mail indicating that he was a novice at his job.  Read the rest of this entry »

OPINION: Baba Anna Hazare’s victory, the Constitution’s defeat

THE HIMALAYAN BEACON [BEACON ONLINE]

BY DARJ MAN

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi “the Mahatma” – the father of the nation, delivered India independence on August 15, 1947. Immediately thereafter Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, “Chacha” and his progeny Indira Gandhi, the daughter and eventually her son, the grandson Rajiv Gandhi finally took over the reigns of the Govt. as a matter of family dynastic convention under which traditionally India had survived historically past hundreds of years immediately before British event of rule around 1600. This is to say, India has been under a system perceived close to feudalism near resembling monarchy, autocratic and aristocratic, peculiar to medieval Europe. This was a destiny predicated to the Indian evolutionary historical ethos. It has been the traditional historical content of the Indian subcontinent which since time again was impacted to convenience a foreign rule, as all attempts to any formation of federal rule was somehow symbolically delayed by the inherent implications and results of internecine warfare creating divisions within the already diverse composition of society. These happenings are so true for smaller nations of the world having their own evolution history but the same rule applied to the subcontinent of India, which is infact larger than most of Europe combined, had been a factor for claiming India’s fame of the paradigm of virtue in expressing India’s unity in diversity.

This is a accolade worth mention to the greater glory of the Indian nation but at the same time in its antithesis is implied the downgrading of the Indian national ethos, the administration of which past 64 years of independence, is yet to bring about a semblance of socio-economic and political order exemplified by the modern capitalistic order. This is not to mention the Republic of China’s success with a tryst of a marriage between partnership of communistic capitalism or vice versa in bringing about a miraculous economic formula escalating to the pinnacle of success, while at the same time the forbearers of capitalistic economies are facing a traumatic slide down despite their earlier success. OPINION: Questionnaire for state seekers

Posted by Barun Roy on 12th April 2011

THE HIMALAYAN BEACON [BEACON ONLINE]

BY DARJ MAN

There seems to be no question of a doubt the immediate forthcoming State Legislative Assembly elections 2011 will have just one specific agenda for all political parties to assert. That happens to be the paramount question of Gorkhaland or its implied resolution, a State for the Darjeeling ‘hill people”, whether they are termed Gorkhas and others or others and the Gorkhas. This it is believed, by a minority section of the literati, familiar with the legal aspects of state formation, as compared to the majority of the statehood demand agitationists patronizingly falling behind the leader of whichever party represented.

The question which is of important and critical consequence is the realization by all the political leaders whether from the hills or the plains in understanding the entire issue of statehood demand and its legal and constitutional validity. This aspect has neither been claimed nor programmed by any of the political parties or their subsidiary bodies respectively. Hence if all the political parties contesting the coming elections arranged to do their share of homework in arguing the case for obtaining a state, to put it bluntly, within the interpretation of the Constitution. This frankly speaking no political party has been able to express this relevancy in any certain terms except the slogan Gorkhaland, which alone is unperceivable to contain the demand for a separate state. Considering this as a deficit while accounting all the records of the political parties’ adventing protagonists of statehood, seems to be falling down every step of the ladder while demanding statehood without citing constitutionally provided guarantees.
