KALIMPONG, 13 DECEMBER 2017: Kalimpong Village Eco-Tourism and Home Stay Development Society was formed today at Sherpa Gaon in Kalimpong. Sabestian Pradhan, popularly known as father of eco-tourism in the region while talking with ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ said that there was an urgent need of a body to look after Eco-Tourism and Home Stay and to act as a conduit between various eco-tourism and home stay operators and the Governmental Agencies. He also said that there was a need to coordinate between various eco-tourism and home stay operators in the Hills particularly, Kalimpong area so that operators could be educated, trained and given appropriate advice so that they could improve their chance of success and become self reliant leading to generation of employment in the region.
Sabestian Pradhan said that the 104 days strike had pushed tourism industry back by about a decade. However, it was time that everybody worked together and looked towards the future. An Eco-Tourism Centre and Home Stay was also inaugurated at Sherpa Gaon, Kalimpong today.
