THE HIMALAYAN BEACON KALIMPONG NEWS BUREAU

KALIMPONG, 3 JANUARY 2018: Madhyamik Teachers from various parts of Darjeeling Hills including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik etc., met in Kalimpong and formed Joint Madhyamik Teachers Welfare Association (Sayukta Madhyamik Sikshak Kalyan Samiti). A Central Committee of the same was also formed and office bearers elected from among those present.

Sitaram Kafley, Executive Member of the Central Committee of the Joint Madhyamik Teachers Welfare Association speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ said that 104 days long strike had severely hampered education in the hills. It had also directly affected the teachers and mostly belonging to the Madhyamik Board. He said that the problems that the teachers have been facing forced them to come together to form a Joint Madhyamik Teachers Welfare Association.

He said that the Association will work towards solving the problems faced by the teachers such as non payment of salary, arrears, stoppages in appointment etc.
