KALIMPONG, 2ND FEBRUARY 2018: West Bengal Heritage Commission has decided to accord heritage status to Katherine Graham Memorial Chapel. The Chapel presently situated in the precincts of Dr. Graham’s Homes School has been inspected by a team from the Commission
Dr. Viswanath, District Magistrate, Kalimpong today speaking to the media said that the presently dilapidated structure will be renovated and a tender for same will be published in February and the first stage of renovation will be completed by 18th of April. He said that it was a good thing for Kalimpong. With the Chapel being given heritage status and brought to its former glory, tourists will surely be attracted towards it.
He added that a sum of Rs. 5 Crore, 18 Lakhs, 37 Thousand and 5oo Rupees had been alocated for the project.
The Chapel was inaugrated on the 24th of September 1925 and dedicated to the memory of Dr. Graham’s wife Katherine Graham.
