BREAKING NEWS: Gorkhaland Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti (GSSS) to organize a Monumental 1772.7 kms ‘Run for Gorkhaland’ Phase-wise Marathon

DARJEELING, 23 JANUARY 2018: Gorkhaland Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti (GSSS) will be organizing a Monumental ‘Run for Gorkhaland’ Phase-Wise Marathon from Gorkhaland to New Delhi. The Marathon will be flagged off on the 10th of February 2018 and will conclude on the 1st of March. The Marathon will be flagged at Kalimpong on the 10th of February and will conclude at Darjeeling after completing 49.3 Kms. On the 11th the Marathon will continue from Darjeeling to Siliguri covering 61 kms. Thence from Siliguri to Kishanganj on the 13th of February covering 108 kms. The Marathon will thus continue phase-wise everyday until it will reach Delhi University. The total distance thus covered would be 1772.7 Kms.

Since, no runner will be able to complete the entire course, they will participate only in phases. A group of runners will run from Kalimpong to Darjeeling and another group of runners will run from Darjeeling to Siliguri. The main idea behind this monumental 1772.7 kms phase-wise marathon is not to see who wins but to bring people together on the issue of Gorkhaland. Speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ Anjani Sharma the spokesperson for GSSS said that the idea was to raise awareness about Gorkhaland through out the course of the people by arranging seminars and workshops at different places and to bring the Gorkhas together under one platform.

Seminar will be organised at Patna University on the 17th of February of the end of Bhaktiyarpur to Patna University ‘Run for Gorkhaland’ Phase. Similarly on the 20th of February another seminar will be organised at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) ater the Sikraur to Banaras Hindu University ‘Run For Gorkhaland’ Phase. Ahmedkar University Seminar will be held on the 23rd of February, Aligarh University Seminar on the 27th of February and Delhi University Seminar on the 1st of March after the end of the last phase of the ‘Run for Gorkhaland’ Marathon that is from Bulandsahar to Delhi University.

The ‘Run for Gorkhaland’ Marathon will thus take 20 days to complete.

The objective of the event has been given as promoting unity and collaborative efforts for Gorkhaland, mass awareness for Gorkhaland, Nationalization of Gorkhaland Demand, promotion of participation of youth and influencing and involving the change enablers.
