DARJEELING, 5 DECEMBER 2017: Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) has raised the issue of the compulsory implementation of Digital Ration Cards in Darjeeling Hills. Addressing the media, Y. Lama spokesperson of GNLF said that the ‘GNLF Food Committee’ met Mohammed Jauhar Alam, Sub Divisional Controller and inquired as to whether official notifications had been issued calling for the compulsory implementation of Digital Ration Cards in the Hills. He said that the Government had made efforts to issue Digital Ration Cards to people but this had not reached 100 per cent of the population in the region.
Lama said that problems also included those who have been issued Digital Cards because the shops from where should obtain ration have been changed and there have been haphazard allocation of places from where they could obtain ration. He said that the officers at Food and Supply office are telling that the Government had issued orders calling for the compulsory implementation of Digital Ration cards but the suppliers have not yet received such an order. Lama said that Mohammed Jauhar Alam, Sub Divisional Controller had told them that from this week onwards ration will not be issued to those people who do not have digital ration cards. However, this not possible since, large number of people will be left. Lama said that the party had requested that instead of making the digital ration card compulsory, it would be better to give people who do not possess the same to apply for the same.
He said people who were facing problems or whose applications for digital ration cards were being rejected could come to the party office for redressal and help.
