Giri Purushkar 2017 to be given to Dilmaya Khati and Dr. Jiwan Namdung

DARJEELING, 23 DECEMBER 2017: This year Giri Purushkar 2017 will be given to Singer Dilmaya Khati and Litterateur Dr. Jiwan Namdung for their contribution to their respective field. The announcement was made by Binay Tamang, Chairman, Chairman, Board of Administrators, GTA. The Award is given in memory of Poet Agam Singh Giri.

Tamang was speaking to the media after an administrative meeting held at Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Secretariat in Darjeeling. The meeting was chaired by Tamang. Tamang also said that the state government had decided to distribute Four months surplous ration or ration that could not be distributed in the Hills due to 104 days old strike from today. He said that he was thankful to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Food Minister Jyotipriya Mullick.

Tamang said that the other matters discussed in the meeting included increasing modified ration dealers, digitisation of cards, enhancing transport costs for hill dealers, appointing food inspectors, and a separate district controller for the Kalimpong district. Manoj Verma, principal secretary in the state’s food and supplies department, attended the meeting at Lal Kothi in Darjeeling.

Tamang also said that while there should be 21 food inspectors in Darjeeling Hills there were only 3 and as such rest had to be recruited. Tamang also said that he had requested that the mid-day meal scheme be implemented through the principal secretary of the GTA as the department was a transferred subject – implying it was under the hill body.

The meeting was also attended by District Officials indicating a willingness to work together between the State Government apparatus and the GTA.
