DARJEELING, 3 JANUARY 2018: Darjeeling Chiya Kaman Union has demanded immediate disbursal of the second installment of puja bonus which remains pending to date. Speaking to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ Anup K. C., spokesperson for Darjeeling Chiya Kaman Union said that Darjeeling Chiya Kaman Union affiliated with CITU demands immediate disbursal of the second installment of Puja bonus. He said that the State Government was conspiring with the Tea Garden Owners in not disbursing the second installment of the Puja bonus. K. C. said that the second installment of the Puja bonus had not be disbursed in any of the tea gardens in the hills.
K. C. also said that during the 105 days strike the tea garden workers had been the worst hit and yet while others received their pay for the period or are set to receive the same, the tea garden workers have not received their pay for the period. He said that the Union demands that the State Government or the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) will have to pay the three months salary to the tea garden workers.
K. C. added that the Darjeeling Chiya Kaman Union condemned the recent hike of Rs. 17.50 in the wage of the tea garden workers as inadequate and lower than a pittance.
