KALIMPONG, 25 JANUARY 2018: All India Jana Andolan Party (JAP) has been given permission to hold a public meeting at Bagha Jatin Park in Siliguri. The meeting will be organised to mark the 3rd Foundation Day of the party. Party General Secretary Nayan Pradhan today addressing the media said that the party has been given the permission to hold public meeting at Bagha Jatin Park in Siliguri. This is one of the first time in recent memory that a hill party has been given a permission to hold public meeting inside Siliguri.

KALIMPONG, 23 JANUARY 2018: The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Damber Singh Gurung, the stalwart of Indian Gorkhas who had been the member of the nation’s Constituent Assembly tasked to formulate the Constitution of free India was celebrated today in Kalimpong. Today was the 118th Birth anniversary of Damber Singh Gurung. A function was organised at Damber Chowk in Kalimpong where leaders from different political parties paid homage to him.

KALIMPONG, 23 JANUARY 2018: A number of major political parties from Kalimpong District has condemned Binay Tamang, Chairman, Board of Administrators, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) for threatening Sikkim. It may be noted that Tamang, who is also the President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Binay-Anit) faction had warned Sikkim from meddling in politics in the Hills. Tamang had said that he did not want to interfere in the politics of Sikkim but the Sikkimese Government has always been interfering in the politics of the Hills. Tamang directly addressed Sikkimese Chief Minister and said that it was upon him as to what kind of relationship he wanted to maintain with Darjeeling Hills. If he interfered the relation between Sikkim and Darjeeling Hills would deteriorate.

लेबुङ: गत वर्षहरू झैँ कालेबुङ लोवर बोङबस्ती स्थित श्री सिद्धिविनायक गणेश मन्दिरमा आज 72 औँ श्री सिद्धिविनायक गणेश पूजा भव्य रूपमा सम्पन्न भएको थियो। प्रत्येक वर्ष माघ शुक्ल पक्ष चौथीको दिन सम्पन्न हुने गणेश पूजा यस वर्ष पनि श्री सिद्धिविनायक गणेश मन्दिर समितिको आयोजना सम्पन्न भएको थियो। सन् 1946 सालमा स्वर्गिय डिकूरा देवी नेपाल (ठुलीआमा) -ले गणेश मन्दिर निर्माणको निम्ति जमिन दान गरेपछि त्याँहा यस मन्दिर स्थापना गरिएको थियो। मन्दिरमा प्रत्येक दिन पूजा आरधना गरिने गरिन्छ। दैनिक रूपमा पूजा पाठ गर्ने क्रमका साथ प्रत्येक वर्ष माघ शुक्ल पक्ष चौथीका दिन यहाँ गणेश पूजा भनी धुमधामले पूजा पाठ गर्ने गरिन्छ।

KALIMPONG, 21 JANUARY 2018: A meeting was held at Jagannath Bhawan in Kalimpong on the 20th of January taking in account the party’s public meeting in Darjeeling on the 28th of January. The meeting is to be the first meeting after the last meeting headed by party founder Subash Ghisingh. The 28th January meeting in Darjeeling will be addressed by party president Mann Ghisingh. The meeting at Kalimpong was thus organised to discuss over the preparation for the Darjeeling meeting.

KALIMPONG, 20 JANUARY 2018: A 14 year old was allegedly molested near Teesta Bridge by one Digim Giri age 33 year of Soreng, Rangli Rangliot Block, Kalimpongy. A  case has been filed under PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL OFFENCES (POCSO) ACT, 2012, sections 328 and 368.

The Girl had come with her father to attend Beni Mela or Maghey Mela. The girl and her father belongs to Soreng. The father then left for Soreng while the girl left for her elder aunt’s house who lives in Teesta. Later when the father contacted his elder sister, she said that his daughter had not come to her house. The father along with his relatives began searching for her. The incident took place on the 15th of January. When the girl was nowhere to be found, the father ultimately received a call from Purnea, Bihar that his daughter was in Bihar.

KALIMPONG, 18 JANUARY 2018: A Skill Development Workshop under Kanyashree Prakolpa Scheme was organised in Kalimpong. The Workshop was organized by Kalimpong District Magistrate’s Office and held at Agricultural Science Centre (Krishi Bigyan Bhawan). Students from many colleges and schools took part in the workshop.

Dr. Viswanath IAS, District Magistrate, Kalimpong was the Chief Guest. Pritam Limbu, Jyoti Ghosh, Deputy Magistrates and M. W. Moktan, Director of North Bengal Krishi Bhawan were also present.

KALIMPONG, 16 JANUARY 2018: Binay Tamang inaugurated a multi complex building at Teesta Bazaar. The complex started in 2016 will function as a multi-purpose complex. The ground floor will serve as a parking lot. The first floor will house Food Grains and Green Grocery shops and the Top Floor will be used as a Community Hall. Among the prominent people who were present during the inauguration were Binay Tamang, C. Murugan, Sonam Yakha and Sanchabir Subba.

KALIMPONG, 14 JANUARY 2018: Fire broke out today at Old Cinchona Manager’s Bungalow Headquarters at around 11.30. The British Era bungalow was situated near the Cinchona Director’s bungalow in Mungpoo, The fire completely destroyed the Heritage Bungalow. No one was injured,

Cinchona Director Dr. Samuel Rai along with other officials visited the spot. Police officers also visited the spot to ascertain as to what caused the fire. By the time the Fire Brigade arrived the bungalow had been completely destroyed.

KALIMPONG, 14 JANUARY 2018: A massive postering campaign was initiated today in Kalimpong against Trinamool Congress (TMC) by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cadres. The postering was primarily against the BJP TMC clash in Kolkata two days ago when TMC cadres allegedly targeted BJP office and BJP cadres resulting in several BJP cadres being injured. Dilip Ghosh, West Bengal BJP President went to the extent of demanding the imposition of President’s Rule in Bengal.

LIMPONG, 14 JANUARY 2018: Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) Chief Mann Ghisingh today arrived in Kalimpong at around 10:30 am. He walked with his supporters from Thanadara Main Road and met the press at the GNLF party office at D. S. Gurung Road. He is slated to go Char Khola tomorrow to perform religious rites on the occasion of Magey Sankrati. From there he is slated to go to Jaldhaka.
