He said, “To us, he is a person who is on the run from the law. He is booked under several penal offences, even under the UAPA. he has refused to pay heed to the court issued summons. First, he should respect the law of the land and surrender.”

DELHI, 12 JANUARY 2018: Bimal Gurung, the President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) who had to go underground after being implicated in the Unlaw Arms Prevention Act (UAPA) and presently in New Delhi after receiving respite from the Supreme Court has appeared before the television screen after almost seven months. In an interview to ANI, Gurung said, “Our movement for the separate state of Gorkhaland is for the identity of the Gorkha people in India. The people of Bengal are our brothers and sisters like the rest of the fellow Indians. We do not have any enmity with the people of West Bengal. However, since our culture, our language, our costumes and traditions are different we want a state of our own.”

DARJEELING, 11 JANUARY 2018: Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) Chief Mann Ghisingh will be addressing the people on the 28th of January in Darjeeling. Neeraj Zimba, Spokesperson, Central Committee, GNLF addressing the media today said that a meeting was called today at the party Headquarters in Darjeeling. The meeting was presided over by party President Mann Ghisingh. In the meeting it was decided to organize a Centralized Public meeting in Darjeeling. He said that a public meeting by the party had not been organised so far where the party president had directly addressed the people. This was after the last public meeting at Simulbarie near Siliguri presided over by the then Party President and Founder Subash Ghisingh. The meeting today thus decided to organize a party meeting on the 28th of January 2018 near old Super Market, Darjeeling where Mann Ghisingh would himself address the people.

NEW DELHI, 29 DECEMBER 2017: In what can be said to be a total contrast to the fanfare and festivity being organised in Darjeeling Hills, 200 cadres of Jan Andolan Party (JAP) who had left for New Delhi two days ago have all been taken into custody by the Delhi police. It may be noted that Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri, President Jan Andolan Party (JAP) had raised the call of “Chalo Delhi Sansad Ghernay Gorkhaland Key Leay” meaning “Let us go to Delhi to surround the Parliament for the demand for Gorkhaland”. And since the Union Parliament is in session the party wanted to raise the issue of the separate state of Gorkhaland at the National Capital and more so at the Union Parliament. 200 cadres mostly from the Yuva Ekai or the Youth Unit of the party had responded and left for New Delhi.

NEW DELHI, 15 DECEMBER 2017: Highly Dramatic Scenes was witnessed today in New Delhi as Gorkhaland activists from around the nation residing in New Delhi gathered to take part in Parliament March for Gorkhaland. The march aimed at raising awareness about the demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland was intercepted by Delhi police who arrested all the participants and took them to Sansad Marg Police Station. At the time of writing this report, all the participants of the march were still at Sansad Marg Police Station. All the participants of the march had carried their Voter Identity Card and intended to raise their demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland before the Union parliament.

DARJEELING, 15 NOVEMBER 2017: In what can be said to be one of the greatest setback for Bimal Gurung in his bid for retaining support in the hills, Jyoti Kumar Rai, the assistant secretary of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), a member of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Sabha and in-charge of the Fisheries department has not just come out in support for Binay Tamang -Anit Thapa faction of the GJM, he has also named names and said that he is convinced that violence was being perpetrated under the direct instructions of the Bimal Gurung and as such he has chosen to support Binay-Anit faction of the party.
