BREAKING NEWS: State Panchayat Election to be held between May and June; Elections if held in Hills would be vital for all political parties to prove their popular mandate

KOLKATA, 27 JANAURY 2018: State Panchayat Election will be held between the month of May and June this year. This was declared today by State Panchayat and Rural Minister Subrata Mukherjee. General, between the months of May to June elections to the Three Tier Panchayat is held because the tenure of the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and District Councils come to an end.
However, the Minister did not announce the dates for the elections but said that he would do so as soon as the dates are decided. Presently, the state government it trying its best to prepare all administrative machinery for the elections.
With the announcement by the Minister Subrata Mukherjee that the Panchayat elections will be held within a few months, there is tremendous excitement and nervousness in among the parties in the Hills. A leader from a major political party speaking anonymously to ‘The Himalayan Beacon’ said that the Panchayat Elections if held in the Hills along with the rest of the state would be vital for all political parties to confirm their grassroot mandate. He added that after the end of the last tenure of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, no elections have been held in the hills and no party have proven mandate and with changing political equations in the hills, the election would be vital for all political parties to prove who actually stands where.
