THE HIMALAYAN BEACON
DARJEELING, 20 NOVEMBER, 2017: Bimal Gurung has thanked the Supreme Court. In a press release made just minutes ago, Bimal Gurung has said, “I am most thankful to the Honourable Supreme Court of India for kindly granting me releif from arrest till my anticipatory bail plea comes up for hearing. I hold the Supreme Court of our nation in the highest esteem and reiterate my full faith in the judiciary.”
He added, “The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha under my leadership has always followed the path shown by Gandhiji and we have rigourously pursued nonviolent and constitutional means of raising our demand for the separate state of Gorkhaland. However, numerous false cases have been slapped against me and the GJM leaders and cares who are loyal to the Gorkhaland cause. Numerous false cases have also been slapped against innocent people and they are forced to spend months in jail. I, therefore request the Honourable Supreme Court and through them the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to kindly order a Supreme Court monitored NIA investigations into all the cases dealing with bomb blasts and arms haul in Darjeeling region and CBI investigations into the killings of 13 Gorkhaland activists in cold blood by West Bengal police and the suspicious circumstances under which Police Officer Amitabha Mullick was killed.”
He added, “We are confident that when the truth is finally revealed, those anti-nationals who have conspired to bring strife and tensions in the sensitive ‘Chicken Neck’ region of our nation by causing bomb blasts and dropping in sophisticated arms such as AK 47s, will be held accountable for jeopardizing our national security, and they will be persecuted for their crimes against our nation. I want to reiterate that, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha will continue to struggle for Gorkhaland statehood in a peaceful and democratic manner.”
Gurung also made it clear that the validity of his removal from the party along with other leaders loyal to him was not valid since, both Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa were expelled from the party unanimously on the 1st of September 2017 and as such they did not have the right to participate in any proceedings of the party nor use the name of the party or its flag. He said that whatever they were doing was illegal and strict legal action will be taken against them.
Gurung thanked the people for supporting him, believing in him and standing up for him at the same time withstanding the immense pressure from the State Government.
He said, “Gorkhaland is not just for us but more importantly for the future generations, and I will never give up my struggle because I do not want our future generations to live through the same discrimination and humiliation that we have had to face.”
Ultimately he said, “the more they conspire against us, the stronger our resolve for Gorkhaland becomes I request people to keep the faith and remain steadfast as we all collectively stirve for a state of our own.”
