DARJEELING, 29 OCTOBER 2017: Bimal Gurung, Founder President of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) could become the first president of a party in the hill to be voted out from the party given that the suspension and the eventual expulsion of Bharati Tamang from All India Gorkha League is contested. Speaking on the sideline of the political meet organised by the Binay Tamang – Anit Thapa faction of the GJM at Kurseong, Anit Thapa said that the Yuva Morcha (Youth Wing) of the Party had met in Darjeeling and pledged its support to the Binay Tamang-Anit Thapa faction and expelled most of its leadership known to be close to Bimal Gurung following due procedure and decorum of the party. It was based on house majority according to Thapa.
When asked whether Bimal Gurung was next to be voted out from the Presidentship of the party or even expelled, Thapa said that the Central Committee of the GJM had not met for a long time and it was long overdue that they met and elect a new leader. He also said that the Central Committee will meet soon and thrash out major issues surrounding the party.
He also said that there were no two factions of GJM. GJM was one and same and that it was upon the majority of the members of the GJM and the majority of the members of the Central Committee to decide who will be at the helm of the party.
Inquired as to what the party was doing over the issue of Gorkhaland, Thapa said that Binay Tamang has established a research team and the team was working on modalities in association with the research team that had worked on the Telengana Statehood movement.
