SILIGURI, 17 FEBRUAY 2018: S. S. Ahluwalia Union Minister for State for Drinking Water and Member of Parliament from Darjeeling Constituency has said that some agencies had planned to eliminate Bimal Gurung in an encounter in 2017 during the Gorkhaland Agitation. Ahluwalia said speaking in the sidelines of inauguration of Passport Centre in Siliguri today. He said that there were strong evidence that some agencies had planned to eliminate Bimal Gurung in an encounter in 2017. He said that he would do everything he could do to protect Bimal Gurung from being eliminated in an encounter. He said, “I am against any repressive measures by the state government against the (Gorkhaland) agitators. Bimal Gurung’s party is our ally and I have information that some agencies planned to eliminate him in an encounter. Being a democratic person, I feel it is my responsibility to protect any person from being killed without judicial pronouncement. I will not let him die.”
DARJEELING, 17 FEBRUARY 2018: Binay Tamang, Chairman, Board of Administrators, Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and President, Gorkha Janmukti Morch has hinted that there could be mass protest on Darjeeling Member of Parliament and Union Minister S. S. Ahluwalia’s scheduled visit to Darjeeling. Ahluwalia is scheduled to inaugurate the Passport Centre at Siliguri and may visit Darjeeling though it is not confirmed.
