DARJEELING, 7 JANUARY 2018: Amway – Darjeeling Police Half Marathon will be held on the 12th of January 2018. Addressing the media, Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling said that this year, the Anju Bobby George will be the Chief Guest. George made history when she won bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Championship in Paris and became the first Indian Athelet to win a medal at a world Championship.
Chaturvedi also said that a number of international athletes will also be taking part in the Half Marathon. Most of them would be from Kenya, Nigeria among other countries.
The Half Marathon will be flagged off from Sukhia and will finish at Chowrasta. Athelets from both Male and Female categories will be given a cash prize. This will include Rs. 1.5 lakh for the victor, Rs. 75,000 for the first runners up and Rs. 50,000 for the second runners up. A separate category which will be the unique feature of this year’s Half Marathon would be that of the local athelets and those from the police. Winners from this category would be given separate cash prize. This include Rs. 25,000 for the victor, Rs. 15,000 for the first runners up and Rs. 10,000 for the second runners up.
The Amway-Darjeeling Police Half Marathon is being organised in association with the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA)
Since, the marathon will coincide with the Uttar Banga Utsav, a number of cultural programmes will also be organised at Chowrasta on the same day.
