DARJEELING, 20 DECEMBER 2017: Adventure Tourism will be the main attraction of Teesta Rangeet Tourist Fest 2017. Sangay Sherpa of Adventure Tourism while addressing the media said that Adventure Tourism is the main USP (Unique Selling Point) of Darjeeling Hills and hence Adventure Tourism will be the main attraction during this Teesta Rangeet Tourist Fest. He said that different stalls for Adventure Sports will be erected at Chowrasta where various Adventure sports such as water sports, aero-gliding, mountaineering etc will be highlighted. Various equipment used in the adventure sports will also be exhibited.
Sherpa also said that no fees needs to be paid during the festival to climb Tenzing rock. Any tourist wanting to climb the rock would be given gear free. Further they would be given basic training free. A Cycle rally will be held on 28th December and will start from Chowrasta to Chatakpur. Anyone can participate and free cycles would be provided to those who do not possess one. Anybody interested in para-gliding would get 20% discount. Presently, Rs. 4000 per head is being charged for para-gliding from St. Paul’s School ground to Lebong Stadium. For locals the fees is Rs. 3000 per head. Both charges include pickup and drop facility at Chowrasta.
When asked about the number of tourists coming to Darjeeling Hills Sherpa said that the numbers were promising and that 1000 to 1200 tourists could arrive in the Hills per day.
