[[Pakyong]]: Chief Minister [[Dr. Pawan Kr. Chamling]] on Sunday July 29 addressed the students and teachers of four constituencies, namely, Namcheybong, Gnathong-Machong, [[Rhenock]] and Chujachen, in an orientation program on Quality Education & Development organized by State Human Resource & Development Department and held at St. Xavier’s school ground.
In his address, Chief Minister said that the program is not for any political cause but for the well being of the students, to make their future bright and to see that they are not misguided by the people of vested interest in the state. “I have come to interact with the students as a Chief Minister of the state, not as a political leader so that they may become a responsible and self-reliant citizen”, he said.
He said, ‘What I plan and do is for the welfare of the people and it is not only the responsibility of the Chief Minister but also of all citizens and government employees to work for the welfare of the people.’ He said the Sikkimese local people still donot know where the status of the state has reached but people outside the state praise our developmental works. We must make our mindset of 21st century and live accordingly and make this day a creative one so that we may think how and what kind of society we make in the future, he said. He mentioned several upcoming projects in and around Pakyong.
Chief Minister said our education system started so late as compared to other developed parts of the world; our primary education started only 100 years back, college started 30 years back and University is only 5 years old. Our government has done much in education sector to facilitate the rural students, so that they may get best education.
He mentiond award for students in class X and Class XII – the first second and third students will be awarded rupees one lakh, 75 thousand, and 50 thousands respectively.
He also announced that soon digital format and e-text book will be applied in the schools and every year aptitude test of the students will be done. Every year Total health check-up of the students and by 2015 Sikkim will become second state in the country to be literate state.
He told the school teachers to prepare and nurture the students and adopt new way of teaching method. He also told teachers to take out inferiority complex from our students and make them confident so that they may become self-reliant and responsible citizen in the future. The work of the teachers should be above religion and caste and they should works as a facilitator to the students.
He said if any student is interested in sports, government is ready to help them providing training. He said soon Archery Academy, Boxing and football academy will come up in the state and in next 2016 Olympic more players of Archery and Boxing will be produced by the state for the country. He announced that rupees 2 crore will be awarded to gold medalist in Olympic, 1 crore for silver medalist and 50 lakh for bronze medalist of the state.
He also mentioned that if any student gets admission in one of the top 20 best Universities in the world like Cambridge, Oxford, they will be sponsored by the state government. He said students should get education not only to get degrees but should learn to be self-reliant and be a good human being.
Earlier the program was also addressed by HRDD Minister NK Pradhan and Principal of St. Xavier’s school, Father Gerard Lepcha. MP PD Rai, Ministers Bhim Dhungel, DB Thapa, Neeru Sewa, MLAs, officers were present.
