In a significant development that could go in favour of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘managerial skills as a politician’, the [[Gorkha Janmukti Morcha]] representatives who attended the Trinamool Congress rally on Saturday indicated at suspending their demand for a separate [[Gorkhaland]] “till Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister of Bengal.”
Senior [[GJM]] leader and party MLA Harka Bahadur Chetri declared from the Saturday’s Trinamool rally that “[[Darjeeling]] will walk alongside rest of Bengal in grief and happiness and will continue to do so till Mamata Banerjee is the Chief Minister,” adding no Minister “let alone a Chief Minister ever visited the Gorkha region during the Left regime to share our grief but Mamata Didi did so on plenty of occasions in the past one year time.”
Banerjee earlier withdrew her party candidates from the [[GTA]] elections, which has already been won unopposed by the [[GJM]]. The Chief Minister is credited with solving the vexed [[Darjeeling]] issue when she signed the [[GTA]] accord after coming to power last year.
The declaration of Chetri is considered politically significant indicating [[GJM]]’s dilution of hardline stance on a separate [[Gorkhaland]] State.
